As electric storage water heaters (ESWHs) become an increasingly important flexible grid resource, new research is advancing how these technologies can reduce peak demand, lower costs, and support grid decarbonization. This session will highlight the latest work on code development, demand flexibility, optimization algorithms, customer behavior, and emerging heat pump water heater technologies that are shaping the next generation of intelligent water heating.
